Tzatziki Sauce

Hello HTS Community

Tzatziki is a greek yogurt based sauce that you will simply love. Pronounced as Tsah-see-key (listen to the pronunciation here), the dip is made with yogurt, cucumber, dill, garlic, lemon and salt. Can be used as a spread, dip or sauce, super chilled and refreshing.

Tzatziki is often served with grilled meat, but, I eat this with vegetables (raw or roasted) and sometimes chips too. You can also serve this on your next appetizer platter, along with some hummus and tabbouleh. The recipe is simple, comes together within no time. The crucial element is to drain excess water from the cucumbers before mixing it with yogurt, otherwise the sauce becomes too thin.

Ingredients you will need:

  • Cucumber- 1 medium sized
  • Hung curd or greek yogurt- 1 cup
  • Fresh dill- 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice- 1 tablespoon
  • Extra virgin olive oil- 2 tablespoon
  • Garlic- 1 clove, minced
  • Salt- to taste

Steps:

  • Grate the cucumber with the large holes on your box grater, salt them slightly and keep aside for 5 minutes. Gently squeeze the grated cucumber to remove excess water by pressing it between your palms. Put the squeezed cucumber in a small mixing bowl.
  • Add yogurt, garlic, olive oil, salt, lemon juice and dill and stir to blend. Cover this bowl completely and let it rest in refrigerator for at least an hour for the flavors to blend.
  • Serve chilled with vegetables, or spread it on a falafel and enjoy.
