Tiramisu – The Best One
Light, creamy, slightly boozy and a whole lot coffee is what makes a perfect tiramisu. This is a no-bake easy recipe and does not need any fancy equipments.
Hello HTS Community
I have been wanting to share my recipe of a tiramisu for a really long time, and finally its here. This recipe celebrates the famous no-bake Italian dessert, which gets better with each day it rests in refrigerator. Coffee soaked store bought lady finger cookies, creamy mascarpone cheese, no raw eggs and dusted cocoa powder on top, such simple steps to make a wonderful dessert.
One of my fondest memories and the time I had best Tiramisu of my life is from Venice, Italy. Sitting on floor on side of a small canal right outside our Airbnb, drunk and enjoying that plate full of the wonderful tiramisu with my husband and closest friends. Each time I eat tiramisu now, I am transported straight into that moment.
I used store bought Savioardi lady fingers to save time, but you may choose to bake these at home as well. This recipe also does not use raw eggs, which traditionally are (yolks mixed with sugar and whites whipped). I cooked yolks with sugar on a double boiler while whisking them to make a light cream before mixing it with mascarpone. Also, to replace the raw egg whites, I used whipped cream and added it to the mascarpone and egg yolk-sugar cream.
Things you’ll need:
Lady fingers: I bought a packet from store, you can bake them as well.
Mascarpone cheese: its a must for Tiramisu, I wouldn’t replace it with anything else
Egg Yolks: for the cream
Coffee: freshly brewed expresso
Brandy: for a boozy tiramisu, can be replaced with coffee liqueur, a good rum or leave out for a non-boozy tiramisu
Sugar: granulated sugar
Maple syrup: for a depth of flavor, optional
Whipped cream: required to replace egg whites
Unsweetened Cocoa powder: dusted on top
Some other no-bake desserts to try are Thai mango sticky rice and Dry fruit laddu
Prep time: 40 minutes | Cooking time: 10 minutes | Total time: 50 minutes |
Ingredients you will need:
- Component 1- Tiramisu Cream
- Egg yolks- 5
- Sugar- 3/4 cup
- Mascarpone cheese- 450g
- Heavy whipping cream- 1 cup
- Component 2- Soaking mixture with Coffee
- Fresh brewed coffee- 2 cups
- Sugar- 1/4 cup
- Nutmeg powder- a pinch
- Maple syrup- 1 tablespoon
- Brandy- 50 ml
- Component 3- Assembly
- Lady fingers- About 30-35
- Unsweetened cocoa powder- for dusting
Steps to make Tiramisu:
- Start with creating a double boiler by putting around 1 inch of water in a pot and bring it to simmer. In another bowl, add egg yolks and sugar and then place on top of the double boiler and whisk till all sugar is dissolved and mixture is double in quantity. Whisk continuously, do not stop. Look for pale color and ribbony light texture, it should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk for another 2 minutes.
- Whip mascarpone in another bowl until silky and add the egg-sugar mixture slowly to avoid any lumps.
- In another bowl whip heavy cream until soft ribbon texture is achieved and then gently fold it in the mascarpone mixture. Tiramisu cream is ready, keep aside.
- To make the coffee soaking solution, mix all ingredients and keep aside.
- To assemble, take a 9X9 baking pan and layer lady fingers dunked in coffee solution. Add half of the tiramisu cream, create another layer of dunked lady fingers followed by tiramisu cream.
- Cover with a plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 12 hours so that it firms up.
- Optionally, you can pipe some whipped cream on top, which I forgot to film. Dust cocoa powder before serving and cut pieces.
